Shrimps, crabs, lobsters, insects and the extinct trilobites
are all members of the Phylum Arthropoda. A group united by their
characteristic bilateral symmetry and segmented, hard outer skeleton
(exoskeleton). Crustaceans which include shrimps, crabs and lobsters
are members of a special group of arthropods called Decapoda.
All have 5 pairs of legs with one or more pairs equipped with
a pincer.
The fossil shrimps offered here from the Solnhofen Plattenkalk
are identified by the bristles on their front pair of legs. The
bristles are long on the species Auger with a comb like
appearance. The antennae are very long. The second pair of antannae
is usualy longer than the first.
